Just Dropping By…to Talk About Consistency
Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, says that “what you do EVERY DAY matters more than what you do ONCE IN A WHILE.” I agree with Gretchen. Let’s talk about one thing that we do every day, that if we only did once in a while, would cause problems for us – brushing our teeth. I don’t know about you, but even contemplating only brushing my teeth once in a while makes me shiver. Ick. Imagine the amount of plaque buildup you’d have after just two days not brushing your teeth. Think about the friends who wouldn’t want to be around you and your dirty, stinky mouth. Would your significant other want kiss you? Or even talk to you? Or be in the same room with you? What if you brushed your teeth as often as you exercise? Or as often as you eat vegetables? Or as often as you take your vitamins? Ooooh, for some of you, I think I just GOTCHA!
You know you need to take vitamins, right? The diet of the average human is lacking in so many things our bodies need for optimal health. It’s not our fault, really. The quality of the soil, the water, and the air in our world is not what it used to be even 150 years ago. And much of our food does not come to the grocery store in its pure, natural state. Even if we avoid the things we know are full of sugars, preservatives, and artificial colors and flavors, it’s hard to find organically-grown, GMO- and pesticide-free, REAL food. It’s worse for those of us who can’t help indulging in the occasional bag of Salsa Verde Doritos. I write this as my husband is munching on these very chips that he says he “found” next to the couch… I think we can all agree that it is a good idea to supplement our diet with vitamins, minerals, omega fatty acids, enzymes, probiotics, etc. But are we doing it? And are we doing it consistently?
Your teeth are out there in front every day. People see them when you talk, when you smile. You have to maintain good oral health in order to fit in to society. But no one sees what’s going on inside your body. No one but you knows if you took your vitamins or not. So it doesn’t matter to your social life. But what if it did? Imagine that those same people who wouldn’t want to be near you with your stale breath and fuzzy teeth after two or three days of not brushing decided to avoid you based on your consistency in taking your supplements. Would you have any friends? Would the cat sit on your lap?
Consistency in supplementing your diet is critical to your health. A vitamin here and there, some fish oil once in a while, and some probiotics when you think about it – this is not enough. It may not be showy like good brushing habits, but your body gets icky and stale without proper care, too. If you haven’t already begun supplementing your diet with a quality vitamin mineral complex like doTERRA’s Microplex VMz, and with marine- and plant-based omega fatty acids like those found in doTERRA’s xEO Mega, consider adding these items to your daily routine – right along with bathing and brushing your teeth. Your friends may not notice, and they may not care. But isn’t it time you did something that’s good for you, FOR YOU?
